🔔 My New Documents functions is a notifications page, similar to notifications on your phone or computer. It highlights documents that need your attention so you can review, bill time, and stay current across your cases.
🧹Once a document has been reviewed or time has been added, it should be removed from My New Documents to keep the list focused, organized, and efficient.
🧭 What Is My New Documents?
Scanning and storing incoming mail and documents electronically is essential for running a paperless and remote law firm. Casefriend’s My New Documents feature makes it easy for attorneys to stay informed when new documents (e.g.: scanned mail or subpoenas) are added to their cases by others at the firm. This centralized view saves time and ensures nothing slips through the cracks.
You can view your own New Documents or another user's New Documents, if you have permissions.
To access My New Documents:

With My New Documents, you can:
📄 View all newly added documents across your cases
👀 Preview or open documents without leaving your current case
🎯 Filter by document type (Subpoenas, Incoming Mail, or Documents)
🕒 Add time entries after reviewing documents
👁️ Mark documents as viewed or unviewed
🎨 When the Event associated with a document is assigned a background color or is marked as important, you will see the assigned color in My New Documents
💡 Tip: Incoming Mail is identified by an envelope icon for easy recognition.

👀 Viewing and Previewing your New Documents
When you click the document name or the preview icon, the document will open for your review and will be marked as Viewed on the My New Documents page.
- ⚠️ A viewed document remains on the My New Documents list until you Remove it.

🔎 Filtering by Viewed Status
My New Documents now includes Viewed and Unviewed filters in the upper‑right corner, giving you quick control over what you see.
By default, All documents are shown. You can narrow the list at any time by clicking the Viewed or Unviewed filter.
Each filter displays a live count. Click the count to instantly view only the documents that match that status.
This makes it easy to focus on documents that still need review, revisit items you’ve already looked at, or quickly confirm your review progress.
🎨 Event Color Visibility in My New Documents
My New Documents now displays Event colors, giving you instant visual context about why a document matters before you even open it.
Event background colors carry through to My New Documents. When a background color is applied to an Event, that same color appears on all related documents in the My New Documents list.
⚠️Important mail is clearly highlighted. When staff marks a document as Important and your firm has configured an Important color in Firm Settings, that color is displayed in My New Documents.
This makes urgent, high‑priority, or time‑sensitive documents immediately recognizable, reducing review time and helping attorneys focus on what matters first.
👥 Viewing Another User’s My New Documents
My New Documents also allows authorized attorney managers and staff to view another user’s My New Documents list. This is useful for coverage, supervision, and workload visibility.
When viewing another user’s My New Documents, you are seeing a read‑only view of their notifications.
In this mode, you can:
👀 View documents awaiting review by the selected user
📄 Preview documents for awareness and oversight
🔎 Monitor document flow and pending review items
In this mode, you cannot:
❌ Remove documents from another user’s My New Documents
❌ Add time entries on behalf of another user
❌ Mark documents as viewed or unviewed for another user
This limitation ensures each user retains control over their own review, billing, and notification workflow.
❌Removing Documents
You can remove documents from My New Documents. Removing a document from My New Documents does not delete it, it remains in its case file.
To remove documents from My New Documents:
right click on document and select Remove from My New Documents or Remove all from My New Documents.
⚠️ Important: Removing a document from My New Documents cannot be undone.
⚠️ Only YOU can remove documents from My New Documents.
⏱️Adding Document Review Time
You can easily add your document review time by right clicking a document and selecting Add time entry
