Casefriend’s Timekeeper Settings page allows firm administrators to manage individual attorney billing configurations, including monthly billable goals, rate classifications, and client assignments. This tool is especially useful for assigning a single timekeeper to multiple clients quickly, without navigating through each Client Billing Rules page.
Managing Timekeeper Rates in Casefriend
Track performance, assign billing roles, and manage client rates—all from one screen.
What You Can Do with Timekeeper Settings
Using the Timekeeper Settings page, your team can:
📊 Set monthly billable hour goals for performance tracking
💼 Assign TK Types for LEDES-compliant billing formats
💵 Manage rate classifications for time entries
📁 Assign timekeepers to multiple clients from one screen
✅ Set default billing rates for each user
How Timekeeper Settings Work
1Set Monthly Billable Hours Goal
At the top of the Timekeeper Settings page, you’ll find a field labeled Monthly Billable Hours Goal. This value is tracked on the Attorney Performance dashboard and helps your firm monitor productivity and billing targets.
💡 Example: Set the goal to 180 hours for a full-time attorney.
Assign TK Type for LEDES Billing
Use the TK Type dropdown to assign a Timekeeper ID (typically initials) compatible with machine-readable formats like LEDES. This ensures that time entries are properly formatted for electronic invoice submission and promptly paid.
You can use the preconfigured Casefriend values for TK Type or customize your own.
Set Default Rate Classification
Select a Default Rate Classification to automatically apply a billing rate when the timekeeper enters time. This rate is pulled from the classifications defined in your Client Billing Rules.
Assign Clients and Classifications
The Client Assignment Table allows you to:
- Add clients to the timekeeper
- Assign billing classifications (e.g., PT, AS, HR, etc.)
- View client short names and remove assignments as needed
💡 This method is ideal for assigning a single user to multiple clients quickly—especially useful for firm-wide roles like hearing reps or paralegals.
✅ Best Practices
- Use consistent TK Types across timekeepers to ensure LEDES compatibility
- Set realistic monthly goals based on role and workload
- Review client assignments regularly to ensure billing accuracy
- Use the default rate classification to reduce manual entry errors
