Learn how to record billable time and expenses in Casefriend by linking entries directly to Events. This guide walks you through creating, editing, and managing time entries to improve billing accuracy and reduce write-downs.
🧭 Why Time Entries Are Different in Casefriend
In most billing systems, time entries exist independently from the work performed. In Casefriend, Time Entries are linked to documents, emails, and Events, allowing your billing team to justify and recover more time by associating billable activity with actual case work.
💡 Pro-tip: The fastest way to enter time is to right-click on an Event in your Timeline and select “Add a Time Entry.”
1️⃣ Open or Create an Event
- Navigate to the Case Timeline
- Open an existing Event or create a new one
2️⃣ Access the Time Entry Tab
- Click the Time Entry tab within the Event
- Click the New Time Entry button
3️⃣ Create a New Entry
- Select a Billing Snippet and click Save
📘Billing Snippets are canned or pre-formatted Time or Expense entries which comply with your client's billing guidelines. Your firm administrator will set your Billing Snippets. Learn more about Snippets here.
- If you need to modify the Timekeeper or Created By values, you can do it now
💡 Tip: Your firm administrator can provide you with a list of the most common Snippet IDs.
✅ Once saved, your Time Entry will appear in the Time Entry tab and on the All Billing page, ready to be invoiced.
Edit a Time Entry
1️⃣ Select the Entry to Edit
- From the All Billing page, click on the Time Entry you want to edit
- The Time & Expenses Editor will open
2️⃣ Make Your Changes
- Adjust the time, description, or other fields as needed
- Click Save
⚠️ If you reduce the time, you must select a reason for the cut. This will be recorded in a report for your firm administrators or billing department.
